Kevin Feige says Black Panther will “absolutely” get a sequel, early story plans already in place

March 9, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Well, this will come as no surprise whatsoever given that the first movie is set to break the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office this weekend, but Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has confirmed that “we absolutely will do” a sequel to Black Panther, and that ideas for the second movie are already in place.

“One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two,” Feige tells EW. “There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first Black Panther. We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.”

The nation of Wakanda is going to play a big role in Avengers: Infinity War as the site of a major battle between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Thanos’ forces (according to Feige, we’ll be spending the entire third act there), so you’d have to imagine the events – and aftermath – of the next two Avengers movies will have a significant impact on the story for the sequel.

Presumably, Black Panther 2 will fill one of the recently announced Marvel release, and join the already announced Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as part of the Phase Four slate.

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returnsohome to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

Black Panther sees Ryan Coogler (Creed) directing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa alongside Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu, John Kani as King T’Chaka and Nabiyah Be as Linda.
