Liam Neeson cast as The Monster in A Monster Calls

May 8, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Liam Neeson has signed on to play the titular monster in director Juan Antonio Bayona’s (The Impossible) A Monster Calls.

Adapted from the award winning children’s fantasy novel by Patrick Ness, the film centres on a young boy who attempts to deal with his mother’s illness and bullying within school by escaping into a fantasy world of monsters and fairy tales that deal with courage, loss and faith.

Bayona’s The Orphanage stands out as one of the finest horror films of recent years and it will be interesting to see what he can do with a children’s novel. Neeson will join Felicity Jones (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) in the cast and the film opens October 14th, 2016.
