Lord and Miller working on The LEGO Movie Sequel script, plot details revealed

September 14, 2017 by George Chrysostomou

Talking with Collider at the press event for The LEGO Ninjago Movie, producers Dan Lin and Chris McKay have revealed some new details about the sequel to the surprise hit of 2014, centred on the famous plastic bricks.

Asked about the future of The LEGO Movie franchise, Lin and McKay had this to say: “We are going to do The LEGO Movie 2. The team is all back together, so it’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller, myself and Chris McKay. Mike Mitchell is the new voice who’s coming in to direct the movie. Chris and Phil are rewriting the script right now, but we’re in production. We’re picking up where the first movie left us, where the Duplo have now come and they’re attacking Bricksburg. It’s several years later, and you’re going to see the result of that.”

When asked to expand upon the narrative that the sequel will feature, Lin said  that: “The LEGO Movie 2 will be the first one told through two kids’ imaginations – Finn and his sister. It’s going to be really interesting juxtaposing those two different visions.” He went on to add that the story will feature Finn’s sister interacting with the LEGO world for the first time and the differences that arise between her and her brother.

McKay only had praise for Miller and Lord with their treatment of the script, stating that: “Chris and Phil are super fucking smart and really thoughtful and sensitive writers. The kinds of questions and the interesting ideas that they’re getting into with this movie, it’s going to be like the first LEGO Movie was, where it’s about something else that’s really profound.”

The LEGO movies are going from strength to strength with the success of The LEGO Batman Movie and the upcoming LEGO Ninjago Movie, so a sequel to the film that started it all has some high expectations placed upon it. But with Lord and Miller recently exiting the Han Solo spin-off, they can now devote their to producing the best LEGO Movie Sequel  that Warner Bros. can offer.
