Marvel’s Black Widow runtime revealed by Disney

January 30, 2021 by Amie Cranswick

With Disney remaining steadfast in its decision to release Black Widow theatrically this May (for the time being, at least), a now-removed listing on the Disney UK website has revealed that the Scarlett Johansson-headlined Marvel blockbuster is set to clock in at 133 minutes.

The two-hour and 13 minute runtime means Black Widow is the ninth longest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe today, tied with 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, and 1 minute shorter than 2018’s Black Panther.

Pre-pandemic, Black Widow was originally going to launch Phase Four of the MCU (a distinction which has since gone to the Disney+ series WandaVision) back in May of last year, before being moved to November 2020 and then its current May 7th 2021 date.

It’s been reported recently that Disney has been considering the idea of debuting Black Widow with a simultaneous theatrical and Disney+ release, the latter being under the premium Premier Access model we previously saw for Mulan.

These reports have been denied by Disney, but if the studio is adamant about sticking to this May date, there may be no other option given all of the uncertainty as to whether cinemas will even be open by the Spring.

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Black Widow is being directed by Cate Shortland (Lore) and sees Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff alongside Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) as Yelena Belova, O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Mason, David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) as Melina Vostokoff/Iron Maiden, Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) as Dreykov and Olivier Richters (The King’s Man) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
