Naomi Ackie in talks for DC Studios’ Clayface movie

July 27, 2025 by Gary Collinson

Having found their title character in Tom Rhys Harries (The Return), DC Studios and director James Watkins (Speak No Evil) have reportedly identified their female lead for the body horror film Clayface.

According to THR, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody star Naomi Ackie is in talks to join the new DC Universe in the upcoming film scripted by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House). Ackie is coming off roles in Blink Twice and Sorry, Baby, and will next be seen in Netflix’s hotly-anticipated adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club.

According to the trade, the $40 million-budgeted Clayface “enters on an ascending actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster. As a last resort, the actor turns to a fringe Elizabeth Holmes-style scientist for help. At first, the experiment is a successful but … well, it wouldn’t be a horror movie if the story ended right there, would it?”

Clayface is based upon the classic Batman villain, and is on the fast track at James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe, having been set for release on September 11th 2026. It will mark the third feature film entry in the DCU after Gunn’s Superman and director Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl, which will fly into cinemas in June of next year.
