Nathan Fillion to return as Guy Gardner in DC’s Mister Miracle series

August 16, 2026 by Gary Collinson

Nathan Fillion’s hot-headed Green Lantern Guy Gardner is fast becoming the cornerstone of the rebooted DC Universe. Having brought the character to life in last year’s Superman, Fillion reprised the role for a cameo in season 2 of Peacemaker, will return in HBO’s new series Lanterns and next year’s Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, and can now also add the upcoming animated series Mister Miracle to his resume.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming animated series (which introduces Jack Kirby’s ‘Fourth World’ mythos into the DCU), showrunner Tom King revealed Fillion as the first confirmed casting for the show: “We brought Nathan into Mister Miracle’s show, and doing that, it’s just so wonderful. He brings that energy to every aspect of it. And you would think it would be different tonally from [Lanterns], but it blends because that’s who Guy is. He’s that guy who is over the top. We all know that guy who’s a little bit like that.”

The Mister Miracle animated series is based upon the acclaimed 12-issue comic series from King and artist Mitch Gerads, which follows Scott Free, a renowned escape artist and the son of the Highfather, the ruler of the benevolent New Genesis. Raised by Darkseid, the ruler of Apokolips, as part of a peace treaty between the rivals worlds, Scott would eventually fall in love with Big Barda, the leader of Darkseid’s elite guard the Female Furies, and escape Apokolips to start a new life on Earth. However, with war once again raging between New Genesis and Apokolips, the couple’s perfect life is shattered when Scott’s adoptive father seems to have finally captured the ultimate weapon, the Anti-Life Equation, with Mister Miracle the only one who may be able to stop the slaughter and restore peace.

Mister Miracle will become the second animated series in James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe after Creature Commandos, and is expected to premiere in 2027 alongside the second season of the latter.
