Netflix cancels The Midnight Club after one season

December 2, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Hot on the heels of the news that Mike Flanagan and long-time creative partner Mike Tracy were taking their successful brand of horror over to Amazon Prime Video, it has been revealed that Netflix have cancelled their latest venture The Midnight Club after just one season.

According to The Wrap Netflix have decided not to move forward with a second season of the YA horror series, which only debuted on the streaming service in October.

Flanagan and Tracy’s Intrepid Pictures are behind some of Netflix’s most critically-acclaimed shows, with The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass all racking up impressive viewership. However, it appears that despite a positive reaction from audiences and critics, The Midnight Club only remained in Netflix’s Top 10 for three weeks, which is believed to have been a decisive factor in the decision to cancel the show.

Flanagan still has Edgar Allan Poe adaptation The Fall of the House of Usher, which stars Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly and Mark Hamill, to deliver before he hands over the keys to his Netflix locker.

Let us know whether you’re disappointed that The Midnight Club is disbanding by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

At a manor with a mysterious history, the 8 members of the Midnight Club meet each night at midnight to tell sinister stories – and to look for signs of the supernatural from the beyond. Based on the beloved Christopher Pike book series, and brought to life by the creators of The Haunting of Hill House.

The Midnight Club stared Iman Benson, Adia, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Aya Furukawa, Annarah Shephard, Chris Sumpter, Sauriyan Sapkota, Annarah Cymone and Heather Langenkamp.
