New Commando comics deliver more action and adventure

August 20, 2026 by Andrew Newton

There are four new Commando comics available in newsagents (and from DC Thompson), bringing new tales of action and adventure to readers. This week’s selection takes readers to the jungles of Burma, into the skies with fighter planes and against vengeful SS troops.

The new issues are:

5983 (Home of Heroes): Iron Annie

When Leutnant Kurt Stahlmann ruins an SS plot to steal Soviet loot, his next mission to deliver supplies to the troops in Leningrad looks set to be his last, as the vengeful SS have taken action to ensure his beloved Junkers Ju 52 Iron Annie doesn’t make it home. Can Kurt Stahlmann survive what the SS has in store?

This issue features artwork by Jaume Forns, cover art by Neil Roberts and has been written by Dominic Teague.

5984 (Gold): Mustang Patrol

First published in 1972 as issue 700, Mustang Patrol tells the story of Mustang Pilot Alan Blake. His expertise at shooting down Messerschmitts was remarkable, and sinking E-boats was easy, but then his guns tore into his own squadron leader. What caused this misfiring accident?

This classic adventure is written by Brunt, with art by John Ridgway and cover art by Ian Kennedy.

5985 (For Action and Adventure): A Different Kind of Courage

Set in 1944 Burma, a traumatised and scared Private Henry Lovelock arrives at a Royal Artillery base deep in the jungle. Fortunately, Henry has the support of a squad of Gurkhas, led by the fearless Bibek to help him through his trauma. But when the base is raided by the Japanese and Bibek is captured, Henry must summon the courage to rescue his friend from the clutches of the merciless enemy.

Written by Ian Winterton, this issue features art by Alberto Saichann and cover art by Neil Roberts.

5986 (Silver): The Squadron That Wouldn’t Die

Not all RAF units start with glory, some must rise from disgrace and carve out their own glory in the perilous enemy skies. This adventure tells the tale of this RAF unit that fought for glory, and even when its planes had been brought down, that squadron still refused to die.

This is another exciting adventure from 1972, first released as issue 632, and is written by McOwan, with art by Jose Maria Jorge and cover art by Ian Kennedy.

Issues 5983-5986 are on sale now from retailers and directly from DC Thompson’s Commando comics website.
