Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series targeting 2022 premiere on Disney+, Cassian Andor in 2021

April 8, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Given that production was recently pushed back until next year for a “retooling” of the project, it shouldn’t come of much of a surprise to hear that we’ll be facing a rather lengthy wait until we see Ewan McGregor back as Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Disney and Lucasfilm now targeting a 2022 premiere date for the live-action Star Wars series.

The news comes from a French press release for Disney+, which lists the Obi-Wan Kenobi series as part of the streaming service’s 2022 line-up, while the Diego Luna-headlined Cassian Andor series is listed as 2021.

The Obi-Wan series has recently enlisted Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) to serve as writer, having parted ways with Hossein Amini (The Alienist) due to creative differences. The Mandalorian director Deborah Chow remains attached to direct.

The Cassian show meanwhile is due to begin filming later this year (assuming the global health crisis improves), and has been written by Jared Bush (Moana), with Stephen Schiff (The Americans) serving as showrunner.

Star Wars isn’t entirely absent from Disney+ this year either, as the second season of The Mandalorian will premiere in October.
