Patty Jenkins attached to Wonder Woman 2, but “nothing has been written yet”

June 3, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Patty Jenkins has made history this weekend with the release of Wonder Woman; not only is she the first female filmmaker to helm a $100 million budgeted blockbuster, but she is also set to overtake Fifty Shades of Grey helmer Sam Taylor-Johnson for the highest domestic opening weekend for a female-directed movie, and potentially the first to debut with an opening weekend of $100 million.

Given the success of Wonder Woman, which has been met with near-universal critical acclaim, it will come as little surprise to hear that she is contracted to return for a sequel, and while Warner Bros. is yet to officially give it the green light, it’s surely only a matter of time. However, as pointed out by producer Charles Roven, the studio is yet to start development on Wonder Woman 2:

“Nothing has been written,” Roven tells CinemaBlend. “We really want to focus on this movie, and I think the result of this movie is going to really define what the future of Wonder Woman is in the movies, other than the fact that you know that she’s in Justice League. And we’re really happy about that! But I think we’re all pretty pleased with the film, and you guys have been great, giving us amazingly wonderful positive feedback. We hope it continues on!”

While we wait for word on Wonder Woman 2, we will see Gal Gadot back as Diana this November as part of Warner’s next DC blockbuster Justice League.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman sees Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
