Patty Jenkins is “honored” by all of the Oscar Buzz surrounding Wonder Woman

August 31, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Before Wonder Woman released this summer, we were hit with a steady flurry of rumours that the film was a mess.

Many people simply expected the film to fail. The movie, after all, had a huge hurdle to leap. Man of Steel was just A-Okay with critics (though this writer will defend it to the death). Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was deeply troubled, and Suicide Squad was not the film previews suggested.

Wonder Woman needed to not only be a good Wonder Woman film, but the first truly-exceptional DC Extended Universe film. Something to make the entire DCEU worth the effort, and turn it into a worthy competitor for Marvel.

Flash forward to the end of August, and not only was Wonder Woman a hit, but it’s even getting Oscar buzz. That’s right. The film rumoured to be a mess, is actually getting revved up for award season. How does Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins feel about this? Talking to ET Online, the director gave a humbled response:

“It’s an amazing honor. It was never what we thought. You don’t make a movie like this assuming it would happen so, wow, it is an honor.”

Do you think Wonder Woman is worthy of Oscar Buzz? Was it really that good, or just a good DC film? Let us know in the comments below!

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman sees Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
