Q actor John de Lancie confirms that Star Trek: Picard is shooting season 2 and 3 back-to-back

May 4, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Although Paramount+ is yet to confirm that a third season has been given the green light, it’s been rumoured for a while now that the upcoming second season of Star Trek: Picard is shooting season two and three back-to-back, and now it appears that has been confirmed by actor John de Lancie.

According to a report from Trek Movie (via Dark Horizons), de Lancie – who is reprising his Star Trek: The Next Generation role as Q – seemingly let the cat of out of the bag with a posting on Cameo last month, stating that:

“Q is coming back. As a matter of fact, for the last two weeks I have been filming on Picard and really annoying Picard – really annoying him. Patrick was delighted to see me for the first couple of days and after a couple of more days of really annoying scenes, he said, ‘SO, how many episodes are you doing?’ In other words, ‘When are you going to get out of my face?’ And the answer is six episodes. I think they are going to be coming out – actually, I don’t know. But we are shooting season two and three all at the same time right now.”

Season two of Star Trek: Picard sees Patrick Stewart joined by returning season one cast members Jeri Ryan, Brent Spiner, Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, and Orla Brad, while Whoopi Goldberg and LeVar Burton are believed to be reprising their roles as Guinan and Geordi La Forge.

Star Trek: Picard season two is expected to air on Paramount+ in 2022.
