Ranking Every WrestleMania Main Event from Worst to Best

March 24, 2017 by Liam Hoofe

28) Sycho Sid Vs The Undertaker – Wrestlemania 13

Sid Justice only ever appeared in two Wrestlemania matches, and both of them were main events. Well done Sid.

Neither match was that good though and his Wrestlemania 13 match against The Undertaker, is a difficult and monotonous affair.

Like a lot of Mania main events, this one was overshadowed by a match earlier in the card. Bret Hart and Stone Cold had taken part in one of the most iconic matches in Mania history and this match just feels like an afterthought on rewatch. Hart does his best to keep this match interesting, though, interrupting at the end to help give Taker the victory. Taker has had some incredible matches in his Wrestlemania career- this isn’t one of them.

27) Yokozuna Vs Bret Hart – Wrestlemania IX

Perhaps the most infamous ending to a Wrestlemania in the history of the show. Back in 1993, it looked as though the company were going to move into a new direction, instead, of course, they messed it all up at the end of Wrestlemania IX by handing the torch back to Hulk Hogan in an impromptu title match.

Bret Hart and Yokozuna had actually put on a fairly solid match and it’s a shame that this is only remembered for its ending. The match had some good back and forth action and ended with Yokozuna picking up the win after Mr Fuji chucked salt in The Hitman’s eyes. Following the match Hulk Hogan burst into the ring, Mr Fuji challenged him to a match with Yokozuna, Fuji went to throw salt in Hogan’s eyes, missed, and hit his own client instead, allowing Hogan to take the title.

This series of events is one of the most widely criticised in Mania history and rightfully so. This is booking at its absolute worst.

26) Roman Reigns Vs Triple H – Wrestlemania 32

The most recent on this list, Roman Reigns Vs Triple H at last year’s Wrestlemania was a dud. Nobody really wanted to see the match, nobody really wanted to see Roman Reigns sitting atop of the company again at Wrestlemania, and nobody really wanted to see Triple H main-event another Wrestlemania.

The match itself is pretty sluggish and boring, with the outcome blindingly obvious from the word go. The crowd was really not behind it and the company will be hoping to improve upon it this year.

25) The Miz Vs John Cena – Wrestlemania XXVII

The most forgettable Wrestlemania main event of the modern era; John Cena Vs The Miz served one purpose- to set up John Cena Vs The Rock.

Other than The Great One himself The Miz is the only superstar to defeat John Cena in a Wrestlemania main event, andI’d love to see him defeat Cena at Mania again this year and make it part of his gimmick.

The match itself is pretty weak, and the ending is terrible. The Miz wasn’t ready for the big stage at this point of his career and despite getting a mania main event victory over John Cena, this match did very little to help his career.

The match, however, is notable for being the last Mania main event to feature two full-time roster members.
