Rawson Marshall Thurber passes on Marvel’s Ant-Man

June 4, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Well Marvel certainly isn’t have much luck filling the director’s chair vacated by Edgar Wright on the upcoming Phase Three-launching Ant-Man. Last week Anchorman helmer Adam McKay entered talks with the studio before promptly pulling out of negotiations, and now it seems that another of Marvel’s shortlist has followed suite, with Rawson Marshall Thurber (We’re the Millers) also deciding to pass, according to Jeff Sneider of The Wrap.

McKay and Thurber were reportedly joined on Marvel’s shortlist by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies), so it remains to be seen whether either of those directors are willing to take on the job. Fleischer is also being eyed by Sony for Ghostbusters III while Levine is currently prepping an ‘Untitled Christmas Eve Project’ with Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, so Marvel may need to cast its net even further afield.

Ant-Man is currently scheduled for release on July 17th 2015 and will see Paul Rudd (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues) leading the cast as Scott Lang alongside Michael Douglas (Behind the Candelabra) as Hank Pym, while Patrick Wilson (Watchmen), Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Matt Gerald (Escape Plan) and Michael Pena (American Hustle) are also set to feature.
