Retro Games Ltd reimagines a classic with The Quickshot II

December 15, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Mention the Quickshot II joystick to any veteran gamer and you may just see their eyes glaze over as they lovingly recall those long-gone days of gaming on the 8-bit and 16-bit home computers. Well, thanks to Retro Games Ltd and PLAION REPLAI, 2026 will mean all gamers can experience the thrill of using The Quickshot II, a modern reimagining of one of the most iconic joysticks of all time.

There were plenty of joysticks around in the 80s, but the Quickshot II was one of the best, and a huge number of gamers swore by it (compared to some other joysticks where gamers just swore). Decades later Retro Games Ltd are bringing it back, along with its unmistakable silhouette.

This new USB-enabled controller will bring authentic retro play to modern gamers, thanks to many key features, including:

  • Eight action and feature buttons, including two fire buttons and six function buttons.
  • Floating ball-joint design for smooth, precise eight-way circular movement.
  • All-microswitch construction for every directional input and fire button.
  • Auto-fire switch for rapid-fire high-score attempts (a popular feature of the original Quickshot II).
  • Ergonomic grip for comfort during long gaming sessions.
  • The all-important suction cups for single-handed control on flat surfaces.
  • A 1.8m USB-A cable, ideal for gaming setups.

The Quickshot II is compatible with all of the systems produced by Retro Games Ltd. (the C64, the A500, the Spectrum), and with most USB-based computer systems and retro gaming platforms.

Gamers can now pre-order The Quickshot II for £29.99, and it will be released on 30th January 2026.
