Rumour: Birds of Prey villain and synopsis revealed

August 7, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Following the announcement from Margot Robbie that filming on the Harley Quinn-led Birds of Prey is set to get underway in January 2019, the DC rumour mill has been working overtime on the girl gang team-up.

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve had alleged casting shortlists, reports that Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl won’t appear, rumours about the roster, and a claim that David Cain – a.k.a. the father of Cassandra Cain – will be the main antagonist.

Well, according to The Wrap, that isn’t the case, as the movie will reportedly feature the first big screen outing for the classic Batman villain Roman Sionis, better known as Black Mask.

In addition to the Black Mask rumours, an alleged synopsis has surfaced via Discussing Film, which gives us an insight into the film’s plot and reads:

“After splitting up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya – come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord.”

Assuming these reports are genuine, then it would seem that Black Mask will fill the role of the evil crime lord, although this could just as easily apply to The Penguin, another villain who has been rumoured to serve as the main big bad.

What do you make of these plot rumours for Birds of Prey, and the choice of Black Mask as a villain? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
