Rumour: Bryan Singer developing Red Sonja TV series

March 3, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With a feature film reboot of Red Sonja stuck in development hell for the best part of a decade now, it seems that the character may be heading to the small screen, with Bleeding Cool reporting that X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer is developing an R-rated TV series.

According to the site, Singer will be directing and producing the series through his Bad Hat Harry production company, with the project being eyed for a network such as HBO or Showtime, or streaming services like Netflix and Amazon.

Loosely based on Robert E. Howard’s Red Sonya of Rogatino, Red Sonja was created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith and made her debut in Marvel’s Conan the Barbarian #23 in 1973. Brigitte Nielsen subsequently took on the role alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1985 movie adaptation.
