Ryan Reynolds talks X-Force movie and whether it will be R-rated

May 15, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Ryan Reynolds has given an update on X-Force and thinks the film will be R-rated.

With Deadpool 2 about to release, Ryan Reynolds and his character Wade Wilson are currently the talk of the town once more. But it isn’t just solo Deadpool films in the actor’s future as Reynolds is also set to reprise the role in the team-up movie X-Force.

The film, to be directed by Drew Goddard, will see Deadpool teaming up with other heroes and Reynolds himself can’t wait to get started. Speaking to Collider, the actor said:

“I just wanna work with Drew. I mean, I love him and he has such an interesting take on where he wants to take that world. I see it being a real ensemble on a lot of levels just because I think it’s interesting for Deadpool to kinda function in the way he does in his own universe. You always get to sort of find some way to position him as the underdog or take everything away from him, but for him to function in an ensemble [in X-Force] is a lot of fun. I think there’s a real opportunity to not burden the narrative by shattering Wade’s life, so then at the beginning our movie you get to have him just be part of the team, which is obviously a very challenging prospect for someone like Wade Wilson. So, I’m really excited about that. I’m excited about a couple new characters that we’re talking about. And I’m really especially excited to work with Drew. He’s just amazing.”

Regarding where the film is in terms of production, the actor said X-Force still has quite a way to go: “There’s a storyline that everyone’s happy with, but there isn’t a script yet. That’s yet to come.”

And on if X-Force would be R-rated like the Deadpool movies, Reynolds revealed that the age rating isn’t the focus right now: “It’s all story first. I don’t think anybody’s thinking about the rating. I mean, my sort of wild guess would be that it would be an R-rated movie, but again, right now we’re just assembling the troops to figure out what story we would tell. And it’s a ways away from shooting still, and I don’t even have an idea as to the exact date. But yeah, we’ll see. Story first though.”

While it certainly seems like X-Force remains some way off, it’s great to see the actor so excited about returning to the role once more. Whether the film will be R-rated or not, while interesting, is as the actor mentions, obviously not the most important issue right now.

Marvel’s motormouth mercenary is back! Bigger, better and occasionally more pantless than ever before. When a super soldier arrives on a murderous mission, Deadpool is forced to think about friendship, family and what it really means to be a hero – all while kicking 50 shades of ass. Because, sometimes, to do the right thing you need to fight dirty.

Deadpool 2 sees David Leitch (John Wick) directing a cast that includes returning stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) alongside new additions Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Cable, Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Bedlam, Lewis Tan (Iron Fist) as Shatterstar, Bill Skarsgard (It) as Zeitgeist, Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) as Russell, Jack Kesy (The Strain) as the film’s villain, Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider) as Yukio and Eddie Marsan (Atomic Blonde) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
