According to Deadline the series, which comes from Watchmen and The Leftovers exec-producer Tom Spezialy and Harry Potter producer David Heyman, will be a present-day reimagining of Hitchcock’s classic with a murder mystery at the centre and original characters, led by a female protagonist, Myra Massey, played by Snook.
The Birds synopsis reads “Escaping a bitter custody battle, Myra returns home with her young daughter, secretly probing a childhood friend’s suspicious disappearance. With a killer on the loose and personal threats mounting, she fights to protect her daughter against a terrifying new menace: vicious, deadly bird attacks inexplicably tied to the crime.”

First published in 1952, Daphne du Maurier’s The Birds is set in Cornwall and tells the story of a farmhand named Nat Hocken, whose family and community come under lethal attack from flocks of killer birds. Sir Alfred Hitchcock loosely adapted the story for his 1963 film, which relocated the horror to America and starred Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, and Jessica Tandy.
Snook is coming off the back of further small-screen success in Peacock’s hit thriller All Her Fault, as well as her Tony Award winning performance in the Broadway production of The Picture of Dorian Gray.
