Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eddie Redmayne and more join The Trial of the Chicago 7

February 4, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Last year it was revealed that Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin is set to follow up his directorial debut Molly’s Game with The Trial of the Chicago 7, a script he penned over a decade earlier, and now we have some new casting news for the project.

Deadline is reporting that Eddie Redmayne (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), Seth Rogen (The Disaster Artist), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Snowden), Jonathan Majors (White Boy Rick) and Alex Sharp (How to Talk to Girls at Parties) have joined the previously announced Sacha Baron Cohen (Who Is America?) in the cast of the film.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 is based upon the 1969 federal conspiracy trial which arose out of the the police-vs-protesters riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. More casting news is expected soon, with Michael Keaton (Spider-Man: Homecoming) said to be wanted for a role.

“I’m thrilled to be making a movie about one of one of the craziest, funniest, most intense, most tragic and most triumphant trials in American history,” said Sorkin. “C-7 may take place in the late ’60’s, but there’s no better time to tell this story than today.”

The Trial of the Chicago 7 is set to be shopped to interested parties at the European Film Market this coming week, where it is expected to be a red-hot package.
