Shailene Woodley will not be appearing in the Divergent TV movie

February 10, 2017 by Gary Collinson

This won’t come as much of a surprise to anyone who’s been following the story, but Shailene Woodley has officially confirmed that she won’t be reprising the role of Tris Prior in the TV-bound fourth and final chapter of the Divergent series, with the actress telling Vanity Fair: “No. I’m not going to be on the television show.”

Problems for The Divergent Series: Ascendant began in March of last year when Lionsgate decided to slash the budget following the poor box office performance of the third instalment Allegiant. The studio then opted to pull the plug on the feature altogether, opting instead to complete the adaptation of Veronica Roth’s novels with a TV movie and a potential sequel series.

Woodley only found out about the change of plans when Lionsgate made the news official, and she has previously suggested she had no interest in starring in the TV version, saying that “I didn’t sign up to be in a television show.”

It remains to be seen whether Lionsgate will try to tempt back any of Woodley’s co-stars, or opt for a complete reboot of the cast.

Are you still interested in seeing Divergent on the small screen without Shailene Woodley, or should Lionsgate let the franchise die? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
