Shania Twain biopic in development from Leah McKendrick

June 4, 2026 by Ricky Church

Sony is gearing up for Shania, another musical biopic based on country-pop singer Shania Twain with Leah McKendrick (Voicemails for Isabelle) directing.

A Canadian singer, Shania Twain began her career in the 1980s and blew up in the 90s with her second album. Over the course of her career she has sold over 100 million albums and is known for her hits ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman’, ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’, ‘Any Man of Mine’ and many more. Her seventh album is due for release in July.

McKendrick will direct from a script she wrote. No other details around the project are known, but Twain will serve as a producer alongside Amie Karp.

McKendrick is known for Scrambled which she wrote, directed and starred in. Her latest film Voicemails for Isabelle, which she also wrote, features Nick Robinson and Zoey Deutch and will be released on June 19th.
