Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight says Daredevil will have a “gritty 1970’s New York feel”

July 22, 2014 by Gary Collinson

With filming underway on Marvel’s first Netflix miniseries Daredevil, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight took a moment to talk about the upcoming series during last night’s world premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy in Hollywood, promising a “gritty 1970’s New York” feel to the show.

“We’re going for a very kind of gritty, 1970’s New York feel for the show. We love the idea of beauty in the decay of the city and Hell’s Kitchen being a place that is both horrible and beautiful at the same time, and that’s why Matt Murdock loves it so much and wants to protect it.”

You can watch the red carpet interview with DeKnight here…

Daredevil is set to arrive on Netflix some time next year, with a cast that includes Charlie Cox (Stardust) as Matt Murdock, Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket) as the Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) as Karen Page, Elden Henson (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) as Foggy Nelson, Peter Shinkoda (Falling Skies) as Hachiro and Rosario Dawson (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
