Star Wars: A Droid Story animated movie and Star Wars: Visions anime series coming to Disney+

December 12, 2020 by Gary Collinson

So, who had a Star Wars: Droids reboot on the 2020 bingo?

Okay, so its not quite a revival of the mostly-forgotten (and mostly-forgettable) Saturday morning cartoon, but R2-D2 and C-3PO are about to get animated once again for Star Wars: A Droid Story, a new feature film in development for Disney+.

Announced yesterday during the Disney Investor Day presentation, Star Wars: A Droid Tale is being produced by Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light & Magic, and is described as an adventure film featuring an epic journey which will introduce us to a new hero guided by R2-D2 and C-3PO.

A Droid Tale wasn’t the only new animated project revealed during the presentation either, as we also got word of Star Wars: Visions, an original series of animated short films premiering in 2021, which will celebrate the Star Wars galaxy through the lens of the world’s best Japanese anime creators.

Here’s a look at the logos for both projects:

Be sure to check out the rest of our Star Wars coverage from the Disney Investor Day, which includes a first trailer for Star Wars: The Bad Batch, a December 2021 premiere date for The Mandalorian season 3, the spinoff shows Star Wars: Ahsoka and Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic from Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, a teaser for Star Wars: Andor, Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader return for Star Wars: Obi Wan Kenobi, a Star Wars: Lando limited TV series, a High Republic series entitled Star Wars: The Acolyte, and the new movie Star Wars: Rogue Squadron from Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins.
