Star Wars: Episode IX to begin shooting in January

May 26, 2017 by Gary Collinson

The latest issue of Vanity Fair has offered up plenty of juicy Star Wars details; we’ve had a rather splendid batch of character images from December’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi [see here], confirmation from Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy that the next Anthology movie will be decided in June [see here], and comments from Mark Hamill as to how he would have changed Han Solo’s death scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens [see here].

Well, we now have a small nugget of information on the final chapter of the Sequel Trilogy, with the outlet reporting that principal photography on Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX is set to commence in January 2018. it had previously been reported that filming would begin this summer, although it’s unclear whether that was pure speculation, or if Lucasfilm has pushed back the production due to the death of Carrie Fisher, who was originally slated to be “front and center” of the movie before her passing.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set for release on May 24th 2019.
