This won’t really come as a surprise given that it has been shattering box office records left, right and centre, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens has now crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, becoming the fastest movie in history to do so.
This is the third time this year that the record has been broken; Fast & Furious 7 managed the milestone in 17 days back in April, shaving two days off the previous record set by Avatar, The Avengers and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, while Jurassic World did so in 13 days in the summer.

The Force Awakens has now done so in just 12 days (without the added bonus of the lucrative Chinese market where it will open in January), while it’s currently box office stands at $1.09 billion.
