Super Smash Bros. Ultimate reveals King K. Rool, Simon Belmont and other details

August 8, 2018 by Ricky Church

Earlier today Nintendo Direct held a livestream in which they revealed details on the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the latest instalment in the Nintendo fighter franchise. The stream revealed new players, stages, items and some firsts for the Smash Bros. series. You can watch the full livestream and check out the details below…

Simon Belmont: Simon’s signature weapon is, of course, his whip, with special attacks true to the Castlevania series, including the axe, cross, holy water and Grand Cross Final Smash. His stage is Dracula’s Castle, with candlesticks that release an item when destroyed. Alucard, the tragic hero from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, appears as an Assist Trophy, lending his cursed steel in battle.

King K. Rool: As the beloved villain from all three Donkey Kong Country games on Super NES, King K. Rool joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a playable fighter. He attacks with a blunderbuss that can fire cannonballs at opponents, and throws his crown, which acts like a boomerang.

In addition to these new characters, Smash Bros. Ultimate will also see some more Echo Fighters introduced,  fighters who are similar to other characters and their move set in the game. The new Echo Fighters will be Richter Belmont, a descendant of Simon Belmont and protagonist of his own Castlevania games, Chrom from Fire Emblem and Dark Samus from Metroid.

The game will feature many of the classics stages fans know and love, but new ones to the game include Dracula’s Castle from Castlevania and New Donk City Hall from Super Mario Odyssey. However, the game will boast more then 100 different stages, even more with the Battlefield and Omega stages that can be selected right from the beginning of the game, which can bring the total up to 300. Ultimate will also include a franchise first with Stage Morph, allowing players to seamlessly transition between two different stages during battle.

Some of the latest items the stream revealed were the Banana Gun, Killing Edge, Bomber, Death’s Scythe, Staff, Ramblin’ Evil Mushroom and Rage Blaster. Additionally, new Pokemon such as Abra, Solgaleo, Lunala, Mimikyu and Alolan Exeggutor may be summoned into battle through Pokeballs to help and hinder players.

What do you think of these additions and changes? Are you excited for more Nintendo characters in the game?

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be released for the Nintendo Switch on November 7.
