Taken 3 opens to $91.8 million worldwide

January 12, 2015 by admin

Your US box office report for January 9th – 11th…

Despite the mediocre reviews (read our review here) with some critics outright calling the film “Die Hard 5 bad” (Den of Geek’s Ryan Lambie), Taken 3 has opened to the second-biggest January weekend in the US with $40.4 million. Just falling shy of Ride Along‘s $41.5 million, Taken 3 also added another $51.4 million to give it a worldwide total of $91.8 million.

With a production budget of $48 million, it looks like we may not have seen the last of Bryan Mills just yet. Granted, the film has opened to less than its predecessor ($49.5 million), but that was released in the more lucrative May slot. Check out our interview with director Olivier Megaton below:

Now that Selma is on wide release, the movie shot up to the number two spot with $11.2 million, dropping Into the Woods down to third with $9.7 million. The rest of the top 10 remains unchanged, although horror sequel The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death fell from fourth to ninth, dropping 68% on last week to take $4.8 million.

Here’s your top 10 and their domestic totals:
