The CW gives pilot order to The Lost Boys TV series (again)

February 1, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Will it be third time lucky for The CW and its long-planned TV adaptation of the 1987 cult classic The Lost Boys? Well, potentially, as Deadline has revealed that the network has granted a pilot order for a retooled version of the project that has been in the works since the 2016-17 season.

A TV adaptation of The Lost Boys was first taken to The CW by Rob Thomas (Veronia Mars), where it was envisioned as an anthology series with each season taking place in a different decade. That found itself retooled by Heather Mitchell (Scandal) and a pilot was shot last year by director Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), although The CW opted against a series pickup and released all of the cast save for Dakota Shapiro (Valley of the Boom) and Medalion Rahimi (Still Star-Crossed), who played the David and Star roles. However, their options have also now expired.

The new pilot has been co-written by Thomas and Mitchell, with Thomas previously suggesting it will have much more in common with the Joel Schumacher-directed film than the previous attempt.  Marcos Siega, who directed the pilots for The CW’s The Vampire Diaries and Batwoman, who handle directing duties this time around.

Do you have any enthusiasm for a Lost Boys TV series? Can it make it past the pilot stage this time around? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
