The Last of Us TV series to premiere in January

November 1, 2022 by Ricky Church

The premiere for HBO’s anticipated live-action adaptation of The Last of Us now has a date as the series will arrive on January 15th, 2023.

The date was discovered on the HBO Max app alongside a preview of the series where the description listed January 15 as the premiere. HBO had previously said it was set for an early 2023 premiere, but now we know it will be coming much sooner in the new year than later.

The Last of Us is based on the best-selling PlayStation game from Sony and Naughty Dog. It received wide acclaim and several video game awards and spawned a sequel, The Last of Us Part II, which likewise received much critical acclaim.

The series stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Joel and Bella on a trek across a post-apocalyptic America in the aftermath of a viral zombie-like infection.

The Last of Us story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Written by Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and creator Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) as Joel and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie alongside Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Lamar Johnson, Storm Reid, Keivonn Woodard, Graham Greene and Elaine Miles.

The Last of Us will premiere in January 15th, 2023.
