The Predator reshoot details reveal less Predators and more links to previous films

July 6, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

Shane Black’s The Predator has faced a more tumultuous journey to the big screen than Arnie’s path through the jungle in order to “get to de choppa“, and now details have emerged of the changes that were made following an early test screening. BEWARE SPOILERS!

AvPGalaxy have revealed the reshoots, which shunted The Predator‘s release from March 2018 to September 14th of this year, involved changing the fate of major characters, as well as dialling back on the amount of Predators in the film, specifically the “friendly” aliens, who were seen mounted on a tank in one of the early photos that was leaked from the set.

Also retooled has been the amount of additional hybrid creatures that Boyd Holbrook and Co. would be encountering, with only the Predator dogs, introduced in Nimród Antal’s Predators, remaining.

While we’re on the subject of previous films in the series, the article also suggests that a concerted effort has now been made to link The Predator to both Predator 2, via some iconic weaponry, and John McTiernan’s original, with Olivia Munn’s character shown some grainy photos from the past.

Let us know whether these changes make you more excited for Shane Black’s monster-mash, or have the constant delays, reshoots, and trailers left you reaching for your Aliens v Predator: Requiem DVD instead?

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

The Predator features a cast that includes Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Augusto Aguilera (The Fifth Man), Jacob Tremblay (Room) Sterling K. Brown (This is Us, The People v. O.J. Simpson), Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele), Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck), Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica) and Jake Busey (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series).

The Predator is set for release on September 14th 2018.
