The Sims movie in the works from Margot Robbie

March 21, 2024 by EJ Moreno

The Sims is coming to life in a whole new way.

After decades of being one of Electronic Arts’ signature games, the simulation series is heading to the cinemas for the first time. Margot Robbie is currently attached as a producer, following her hit film Barbie becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023 and capturing an Oscar for Best Original Song.

That’s not the only prestige name coming aboard. Kate Herron, who previously directed season one of Loki for Disney+ and four episodes of Sex Education season one for Netflix, will also direct the film. Reports say Herron will also co-write it.

Production company LuckyChap (which Robbie runs alongside Tom Ackerly, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr) is set to produce with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment and Electronic Arts.

For those unaware, Sims is a life simulation computer game in which players play as avatars to live out specific plots, enhance personality traits, and build their dream homes. The video game was created by Will Wright (the creator of 1989’s SimCity) and premiered in 2000. Since then, there have been multiple sequels across different gaming consoles and their now-infamous expansion packs to enhance each game.

No other details on The Sims Movie are available at this stage.
