The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot finds its directors

February 8, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Back in September it was announced that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is being rebooted for the umpteenth time, with Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe) producing, and now comes word from Variety that the new film has found its directors.

As revealed by the trade, Ryan and Andy Tohill (The Dig) have signed on to direct the latest remake of Tobe Hoopers classic 1974 shocker, which revolves around the Sawyer family, a clan of cannibal serial killers. They Irish filmmakers will direct from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin.

“The Tohill’s vision is exactly what the fans want,” said Alvarez, who is no stranger to rebooting iconic horror franchises after directing 2013’s Evil Dead. “It’s violent, exciting and so depraved that it will stay with you forever.”

The original Texas Chain Saw Massacre spawned three sequels in 1986, 1990 and 1995 before the series was rebooted by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006). The franchise returned in 2013 with Texas Chainsaw 3D, a direct sequel to Hooper’s original ignoring all of the other instalments, and a prequel entitled Leatherface followed in 2017.
