Thor’s Captain America: Civil War absence explained by Thor: Ragnarok producer

September 13, 2017 by Jordan Jones

It looks like Thor has Star Trek levels of space exploration under his belt by the time we catch up with him in Thor: Ragnarok. According to Screen Rant, during a visit to the Thor: Ragnarok set, producer Brad Winderbaum revealed that, while the Avengers have been clashing on Earth, Thor has spent the past few years hunting for Thanos:

“The journey he’s been on at the beginning of this movie, it’s not like five minutes after Ultron ends we start this movie: it’s a couple years later. And as we know, at the end of Ultron he’s started this quest to find the puppet master, and the Infinity Stones, and all that. What he realized really fast – I don’t think I’m giving too much away because it’s right at the top of the film, but basically that one quest, that universe-ending peril that he was trying to figure out dovetailed or branched off into any number of universe ending-perils that he’s been adventuring on for the two years leading up to the beginning of this film.”

It really does seem that we are going to get a brand new Thor with the arrival of Thor: Ragnarok. Director Taika Waititi has made very clear recently that this film is intended to be a refresher, of sorts. Which is pretty obvious when viewing the trippy trailers so far. Thor: Ragnarok also feels like the perfect film to lead us into Avengers: Infinity War, which is sure to have the Cosmic Marvel vibe cranked up to 11.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk alongside Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, Taika Waititi as Korg, Clancy Brown as Surtur and Sam Neill and Rachel House in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on October 27th in the UK and November 3rd in the States.
