Trailer for Samuel Beckett biopic Dance First starring Gabriel Byrne, Fionn O’Shea and Aidan Gillen

Ahead of its release this August, Magnolia Pictures & Magnet Releasing have shared a trailer, poster and images for the biographical drama Dance First.

Directed by James Marsh, the film tells the story of the life and career of Irish literary icon Samuel Beckett, played by Gabriel Byrne and Fionn O’Shea.

The cast also includes Aidan Gillen as James Joyce, Maxine Peake as Barbara Bray, Sandrine Bonnaire and Léonie Lojkine as Suzanne Dechevaux-Dumesnil, Robert Aramayo as Alfred Peron, Bronagh Gallagher as Nora Barnacle, Lisa Dwyer Hogg as May Beckett, Barry O’Connor as William Beckett, Gráinne Good as Lucia Joyce, and Caroline Boulton as Sylvia Beach. Literary genius Samuel Beckett (Byrne) lived a life of many parts: Parisian bon vivant, WWII Resistance fighter, Nobel Prize-winning playwright, philandering husband, recluse. But despite all the adulation that came his way, he was a man acutely aware of his own failings. Titled after Beckett’s famous ethos Dance first, think later, the film is a sweeping account of the life of this 20th-century icon.

Dance First arrives in cinemas on August 9th, followed by a digital release on August 16th.
