Transformers: Age of Extinction is the first movie of 2014 to hit a billion at the box office

August 3, 2014 by Gary Collinson

As Marvel celebrates another huge opening for Guardians of the Galaxy, with the film pulling in a hefty $160 million debut at the global box office, Paramount Pictures and Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction has hit a landmark, with the fourth instalment in the blockbuster Transformers franchise becoming the first movie of 2014 to cross $1 billion worldwide. Age of Extinction has earned $241.1 million domestically and $763.8 million from international markets for a combined gross of $1.004 billion to date, which makes it the second-biggest earner of the series behind Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($1.123 billion), as well as the eighteenth-highest grossing movie of all time.

Transformers: Age of Extinction sees Michael Bay directing a cast that includes Mark Wahlberg (Pain & Gain), Jack Reynor (What Richard Did), Nicola Peltz (Bates Motel), Stanley Tucci (Captain America: The First Avenger), Li Bingbing (Resident Evil: Retribution), Sophia Myles (Underworld), Victoria Summer (Saving Mr. Banks), Titus Welliver (Lost) and T.J. Miller (She’s Out of My League) alongside voice actors John Goodman (Inside Llewyn Davis), Ken Watanabe (Godzilla), John DiMaggio (Futurama), Mark Ryan (Transformers) and the returning Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, Robert Foxworth and Reno Wilson.
