Twitter viral ghost story Dear David gets a creepy first trailer

July 20, 2023 by Amie Cranswick

Lionsgate has debuted the first trailer for the upcoming horror Dear David.

Based on the viral Twitter thread by Adam Ellis in 2017, the film tells the story of the BuzzFeed comic artist from his experiences of sleep paralysis to his creation of the ‘Dear David’ thread on Twitter, whereby he began detailing alleged supernatural occurrences in his apartment which he believed were being caused by a ghost child named David. Watch the trailer below…

Shortly after comic artist Adam (Augustus Prew) responds to Internet trolls, he begins experiencing sleep paralysis — while an empty rocking chair moves in the corner of his apartment. As he chronicles increasingly malevolent occurrences in a series of tweets, Adam begins to believe he is being haunted by the ghost of a dead child named David. Encouraged by his boss to continue the “Dear David” thread, Adam starts to lose his grip on what is online…and what is real.

Directed by John McPhail, the film stars Augustus Prew, Andrea Bang, Rene Escobar Jr., Cameron Nicoll, and Justin Long.

Dear David arrives in cinemas and on digital on October 13th.
