Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles displays Turtle Power at the UK box office

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 17th to Sunday 19th October 2014…

Despite “mixed” reviews from its U.S. release, Jonathan Leibesman and Michael Bay’s live-action reboot Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles enjoyed the biggest UK debut since The Inbetweeners 2, pulling in a solid £4,785,448 including £1.56 million in previews to knock Gone Girl from the top of the chart in its opening weekend.

In addition to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, three other newcomers managed to crack the top ten: in fifth place with £636,842 was the latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Best of Me, followed by the Robert Downey Jr.-headlined The Judge in ninth with £420,720 and photographer Elaine Constantine’s directorial debut Northern Soul, which earned an impressive £278,829 from just 83 screens to creep into the chart in tenth.
