Has Warner Bros. found a new Batgirl writer… on Twitter?

February 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Warner Bros. certainly doesn’t have the best of track records when it comes to holding on to directors for its DC projects, and this past week saw Batgirl going down the same route as the likes of Wonder Woman, The Flash/Flashpoint and Justice League Dark when Joss Whedon announced that he’ll no longer be bringing Barbara Gordon to the big screen, as he “really didn’t have a story.”

Whedon’s departure reportedly leaves Warner Bros. looking for a female director to helm the project, and while that search continues, it seems the studio may have found itself a female writer thanks to Twitter!

As you can see from the exchange above, writer Roxane Gay (An Untamed State, Hunger, Black Panther: World of Wakanda) threw her hat into the ring to pen the script, and rather surprisingly received a response from Michele Wells, Vice-President of Content Strategy at DC Entertainment, inviting her to get in touch.

That also seemed to prompt another offer, this time from Hope Larson, who is currently writing DC’s Batgirl comic book title:

Ah what the hell… if you’re accepting job applications via Twitter these days:

Wish me luck.
