Warner Bros. pushes back 2022 DC Films slate, The Flash and Aquaman 2 move to 2023

March 9, 2022 by Ricky Church

That sizzle reel Warner Bros. released proclaiming that “in 2022 the world needs heroes” is looking pretty awkward right now as the studio has pushed back its entire slate of DC films by months, some even into next year.

Black Adam, which stars Dwayne Johnson as the anti-hero, has been pushed from its July 29th date to October 21st, 2022. Meanwhile, his other DC project League of Super Pets, the animated film about the furry sidekicks to DC’s superheroes, is taking Black Adam‘s July 29th slot after originally slated for May 20th.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was meant to close out 2022 for DC, but it has instead been moved into early 2023 with a March 17th, 2023 date. The Flash, which sees Ezra Miller reprise his Justice League role alongside Michael Keaton’s return as Batman, suffers the most as it has been pushed right into Summer 2023. The Flash’s original date was November 4th, 2022 and it is now June 23rd, 2023.

Given Keaton’s role as Batman in the upcoming HBO Max film Batgirl, the move also presumably pushes Batgirl into next year as Warner Bros. was aiming for a late 2022 release on the streaming service.

The only DC movie to actually get moved up is Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the sequel to Shazam! with Zachary Levi returning. Originally scheduled for a June 2nd, 2023 release date, it will now take Aquaman‘s place as the 2022 closer on December 12th, 2022.

No reason for the scheduling changes has been given and the new comes abruptly a few days after The Batman’s release and domination at the box office along with the news of its multiple HBO Max spin-offs.

What do you think of the changes? Are you disappointed to see so many DC films pushed back? Let us know on our social channels at @flickeringmyth…
