Wonder Woman lands coveted spot on PGA Awards shortlist

January 5, 2018 by Tom Beasley

There were very few surprises as the Producers Guild of America revealed its list of nominations for the best films of 2017. However, female-led superhero movie Wonder Woman managed to nab a spot on the extended 11-film shortlist for its top prize.

The well-received DC blockbuster is due to compete alongside awards season favourites including Call Me By Your Name and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

There was room on the shortlist, which was extended to 11 films due to a tie in voting, for Jordan Peele’s satirical horror film Get Out and romantic comedy The Big Sick.

Patty Jenkins’s film becomes the second superhero movie to enter the awards race this year’s, following Logan‘s surprise nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the WGA Awards.

The PGA animated movie category is a steadfastly mainstream list this year, including the likes of studio features Ferdinand and The Boss Baby, alongside Pixar’s likely Oscar winner Coco.
