X-Box Bargains – Naughty Bear

December 3, 2014 by Andrew Newton

Andrew Newton looks at a selection of Xbox 360 bargains; first up is Naughty Bear…

Black Friday and Cyber Monday may have come and gone and you may be patting yourself on the back that you queued all night and got the perfect bargain game but it got me thinking.  There are loads of brilliant titles available at really cheap prices all the time on the pre-owned market and you don’t have to queue or stay awake all night to get them.  I’ve decided to revisit a few of these older games from my 360 games collection and share my thoughts with you guys.

One of my old favourites that I had completely forgotten about was Naughty Bear by 505 Games.  Just by the title I know a majority of you are going to skip past this article, especially you Gear heads and COD fans.  But wait just a moment and let me tell you the beauty of Naughty Bear and why it is worthy of your time.

You take the role of Naughty Bear who has always been excluded from the activities on Perfection Island and is now out to get even.  It features a large array of weapons and unique ways to kill the other bears from Uzi executions to driving them to commit suicide out of share terror.  The fun doesn’t stop there though, ever fancied slamming a foes head into a barbecue or setting a bear trap and seeing them get trapped well you can now.  Your enemies are varied and range from basic bears with sticks and knives to army bears with guns and even Zombears.  There is a little something for everyone with each foe presenting its own challenge.

As for missions, on the off it may seem that there are only 7 missions (before any DLC) but the more you unlock the more different game types there are to play.  If you like speed there is a speed run where you have to complete all objectives within a time limit alternatively if you have a liking for more stealthy games then there is an invisible game type where stealth is the key to completing the mission.  There is currently 3 additional DLC missions to download the first of which is FREE and quite enjoyable as well.  The second and third DLC all add unlockable costumes for your bear and again have the varying game types to make each mission last that bit more longer.

For you multiplayer fans there is the option of getting online and playing a variant of capture the flag and slayer although it would have been nice if there had been a split screen option.

The cartoon-like graphics are a perfect match for the type of game and the sounds and music fit in perfectly whilst bringing to mind nostalgic thoughts for 70’s and 80’s children’s programming.

All in all there is a little bit here for everyone and despite the poor reviews this received at the time, this game can provide hours of entertainment and an opportunity to cause the kind of terror you would like to see in other games.  For you older gamers, listen to the narrator and tell me that you can’t help but think of Geoffrey from Rainbow.
