Zack Snyder gives update on Army of the Dead sequel

March 29, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Zombie films got a fresh coat of paint with Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, and fans have chomped at the bit to get more of the world. Now, Snyder is opening up about a planned sequel, saying the universe is alive and well, but it all depends on how his upcoming Rebel Moon performs when it comes out this winter.

Snyder tells The Nerd Queens, “As far as the Army Universe goes, it’s still alive and well in my mind. I know exactly what I would do. It really depends on how we try to figure out how we go forward with Rebel Moon and [the] Rebel Moon universe. It’s not a small-time commitment, the Rebel Moon stuff, because a sci-fi thing at this scale does require a lot of attention to make it all make sense. It’s a very interconnected world. And we’ve been doing our best to make it all make sense, and there’s like magic and madness, and all the things that are in the universe, and how they all you know coalesce is not a casual pursuit.”

Army of the Dead sees Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Huma Qureshi, Garret Dillahunt, Samantha Win, Richard Cetrone, and Michael Cassidy. The film is available to stream now on Netflix, while Snyder’s next project for the streamer is his hotly-anticipated space epic Rebel Moon, with Part I slated for December.

Rebel Moon follows a colony on the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by the armies of the tyrannical regent Belisarius (Ed Skrein). In a desperate attempt, the civilians send out a young woman (Sofia Boutella) to seek warriors from other planets to fight the tyrannical armies.

The cast of Rebel Moon includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Anthony Hopkins, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, Jena Malone, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Sky Yang, and Staz Nair.

Rebel Moon Part 1 hits Netflix on December 22nd, 2023.
