Bryan Cranston dismisses Lex Luthor casting “report”

September 1, 2013 by admin

If you’ve been keeping up to date with all things Batman vs. Superman, then chances are you’ve been unable to avoid the “report” that Bryan Cranston has signed on to appear as Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel sequel. Cranston was first mentioned as a contender for the role of Superman’s arch-nemesis by Latino Review a few weeks back, with the Breaking Bad star subsequently expressing his interest, telling Warner Bros. to “give me a call.”

That seemed to provide the notoriously unreliable CosmicBookNews with enough ammunition to take a complete stab in the dark, stating that Cranston had signed on for a six to ten film deal as Luthor (even more ridiculous was the claim that Ben Affleck had a thirteen film commitment as Batman, and that Matt Damon was being lined up for Aquaman and Martin Manhunter). Soon virtually every website on the internet (and even a few newspapers) had jumped onto the “story” in an effort to milk the buzz around Batman vs. Superman, with the majority of posts making absolutely no reference to the dubious nature of the source.

Well if there was still any doubt about this being a completely fabricated story, Cranston himself has now cast that aside, laughing off the “report” in an interview with The Boston Globe: “I’ve heard that [report] too. Six? This is all news to me. I think that maybe my name is bandied about because I’m known to be bald. ‘What bald guy can we get?’ The reality is they can take any actor and shave his head or put a bald cap on him.”

So, now that CosmicBookNews’ report has been proven to be just as reliable as every other “scoop” the site has posted in the past, who would you like to see as Lex Luthor in Batman vs. Superman? Let us know in the comments below…
