Joseph Gordon-Levitt in talks to direct and star in Sandman

December 17, 2013 by admin

It looks like the long-awaited adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s celebrated comic book series Sandman might finally be heading to the big screen, with Deadline revealing that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, Don Jon) is finalising a deal to direct and star in the lead role as Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams.

Talk of Gordon-Levitt’s involvement with Sandman first emerged last month, where it was reported that David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman) was pitching a concept to Warner Bros., and it’s now said that the two will serve as producers on the film and are currently seeking a writer. JGL has since taken to Twitter to confirm the reports, stating that “I’m incredibly honored to be working with David Goyer, Warner Bros. and Neil Gaiman on Sandman.”

Update – JGL has since posted another update, clarifying that, “I’ve signed on as a producer on Sandman. The rest remains to be seen. Delighted you guys are excited. I am too!”

Warner Bros. has been keen to get sandman off the group for several years now, having most recently attached Supernatural creator Eric Kripke to develop a proposed television series back in 2010.
