Captain America 3 screenwriters talk Falcon taking over as Cap

August 14, 2014 by admin

It was announced last month that Steve Rogers would again be stepping down as Captain America and his old colleague Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, would be taking over the mantle. There have been rumours circling the future of the movie version of Captain America when Chris Evans’ contract runs out after Avengers 3.

Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who wrote Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, spoke with SFX about the possibility of the movies reflecting the comics.

“We tend to stay on the sidelines when it comes to the comics,” McFeely said. “We wait and see what we’ll steal from in three or four years from now!”

“I think the movies can accommodate almost anything, if there’s a need,” Markus added. “I think there is a much greater need to shake things up in the comics because that’s a narrative that’s been going on for 60 or 70 years, so you’re going to wind up having to do things to it. Ours has only been off the ground for five or so. So it’s not quite time to start changing things up yet.”

Markus and McFeely have also penned the pilot for Agent Carter.

Captain America 3 is set for release on May 6th 2016 and will see Chris Evans reprise his role as Captain America alongside Anthony Mackie as The Falcon, Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
