Kevin Feige confirms development on Ms. Marvel and Black Panther movies

August 19, 2014 by James Garcia

Somehow this little nugget of info slipped under the radar at San Diego Comic-Con last month, and has just resurfaced over at IGN. According to Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige, films for Ms. Marvel and Black Panther are in development by popular demand.

When asked about the two long-rumored projects at Comic-Con, Feige said: “They’re both characters that we like, that development work has been done on and continues to be done on and certainly the public… it’s a question I get asked more than anything else. More than Iron Man 4. More than The Avengers 3. And that’s sort of the fist time that’s really happened to us so I think that makes a difference. I think that’s something we have to pay attention to.”

Marvel has certainly taken a bit of heat over the last few weeks becuase of their lack of a female-led superhero film, and Feige’s recent comments that the studio may be “too busy” at the moment to greenlight one. These new comments will certainly help ease our worries about these properties, but don’t let Feige’s comment suggest that fan chatter has any real effect on the overall MCU master plan. The studio has stuck with their plan since the beginning, and will continue to do so:

“I’ve always said we have our plan and it served us very well and there hasn’t been anything that has made us deviate or change from that based on opinion because opinions online change and they alter, and they’re based on sort of limited information they have towards what’s going on behind-the-scenes. But in this particular case I think it is a groundswell. I think it does. I think it means something substantial.”

With Ms. Marvel heavily rumored to have a cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Easter eggs pointing toward Black Panther’s home of Wakanda (see: Iron Man 2 and the fact that Vibranium, which comes from the fictional African nation, is what makes up Cap’s shield), chances are good that the characters will show up at some point in Phase Three of the MCU.

What do you think of Feige’s comments? Do you think we’ll see movies for Ms. Marvel and Black Panther in the near future? Sound off in the comments below.
