Watch Genndy Tartakovsky’s Popeye animation test

September 18, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Having made the jump to features with Hotel Transylvania back in 2012, animator Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars) was tasked by Sony Pictures Animation with realising the studio’s plans for a new movie based around the classic cartoon character Popeye.

Despite pushing the film back twice from 2014 to 2015 and then 2016 – and setting Hotel Transylvania 2 for 2015, Tartakovsky hasn’t given up on the project, and is instead developing both movies simultanously.

Well, we’ve now got our first look at Popeye, with the director introducing the very first footage in the form of an animation test. Take a look…

What do you make of the test footage, and are you looking forward to Tartakovsky’s Popeye movie? Let us know your thoughts…
