Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone rumoured for Damien Chazelle’s La La Land

April 15, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Deadline has reported that Ryan Gosling (Drive) and Emma Stone (Birdman) are rumoured to be close to a deal to star in Whiplash director Damien Chazelle’s La La Land.

The film, which Chazelle wrote before his breakout film Whiplash, is described as “an old fashioned musical set in contemporary Los Angeles and centers on a love story between a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress.” It would mark the third time that Gosling and Stone have worked together, having starred in Gangster Squad and Crazy, Stupid, Love previously.

In the early days of the project, Whiplash star Miles Teller was set to star, but he has reportedly moved off the project, as has Emma Watson who was also rumoured, but is to star in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast instead.

The plan is for La La Land to shoot in the fall should deals be made for both the actors. Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River, is now in cinemas, and you can read our thoughts here and here.
