Ed Skrein and Gina Carano talk villain roles in Deadpool

July 17, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Following on from the Deadpool panel at San Diego Comic-Con International [which you can watch it full here], IGN caught up with stars Ed Skrein and Gina Carano to discuss their roles in the upcoming X-Men spinoff as the villains Ajax and Angel Dust.

“The program that we run is very similar to Weapon X, in that we take terminally-ill soldiers and we give them superpowers,” said Skrein. “Ajax and Angel Dust went through that process themselves and now we run the program and we’re the people that changed Wade Wilson into Deadpool.”

“We decided Ajax kind of found her,” adds Carano. “Angel Dust will only listen to Ajax. I’m like a horse rearing to go and he pretty much has the reins.”

“We really wanted people to not know whether we were Brother and Sister, lovers, whether it is a teacher-pupil situation almost like a pimp and prostitute situation, for want of a better word,” elaborted Skrein.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool is set for release on February 5th 2016 in the UK and February 12th 2016 in the States. Reynolds and Miller will share the screen with Morena Baccarin (Gotham) as Copycat, Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6) as Angel Dust, Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones) as Ajax, Andre Tricoteux (Seventh Son) as Colossus, Leslie Uggams (Roots) as Blind Al and newcomer Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
